Clara Barton

"I may be compelled to face danger, but never fear it, and while our soldiers can stand and fight,
I can stand  and feed and nurse them."       -Clara Barton

Clara Barton was an educator, nurse, and founder of the American Red Cross. During Civil War, she independently organized relief for the wounded, often bringing her own supplies to front lines. As the war ended, she helped locate thousands of missing soldiers. She became president of the American Red Cross when it was founded in 1881. Clara continued her humanitarian work throughout several foreign wars and domestic crises before her death in 1912. Clara Barton serves as an important women in history because of her hard work and determination in achieving women's rights. Clara was able to show the strength that women have and that they are just as capable of doing the same work men do.
